Suns Discussing Contract Extension With Third-Year Center Oso Ighodaro, Who Confirms Talks

PHOENIX — Phoenix is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. The Phoenix Suns and third-year center Oso Ighodaro are discussing a contract extension. Ighodaro confirmed to reporters on Friday, October 17, that his representatives have been discussing a potential extension with the Suns, per Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic. "Yeah, we're talking about it," he said. "We'll see what happens in the next couple days." Asked if he wanted to remain in Phoenix, the Arizona native replied: "For sure."
Ighodaro was selected 40th overall in the 2024 draft and signed a four-year, minimum-salary contract with the Suns. He will earn $2.3 million this season, and Phoenix holds a $2.5 million option on his deal for 2027-28. After playing both power forward and center as a rookie, he was the Suns' primary backup center last season, appearing in all 82 regular-season games while averaging 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks, shooting 65.3 percent from the field.
With Mark Williams sidelined for most of the season after surgery last month for a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Ighodaro is competing with Khaman Maluach for a starting spot. Rankin hears that if a deal comes together, it will "likely" be a three-year extension. (GSM, based on Hoops Rumors summarizing The Arizona Republic reporting)
