Norway's Train Drivers' Strike Ends After Four Weeks

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · World News · GSM News

OSLO — Norway's train drivers' strike ended early on Saturday, October 17, after four weeks of disruption. An agreement between railway operator Vy, the Norwegian Locomotive Drivers' Union (NLF) and employers' association Spekter brings an end to weeks of cancelled train services. The settlement was reached during compulsory mediation after negotiations continued into the night. The strike began on September 18, and 72 train drivers were taking part when the dispute ended.

The agreement announced by Spekter addresses differences in basic pay and working conditions between Vy and airport express operator Flytoget, ahead of their planned operational integration in December 2027.

Trains cancelled because of the strike began returning to service at midday on Saturday. Vy said most services would be running again by the afternoon, although some cancellations could continue while trains and crews returned to their normal schedules, and warned that its journey planner might not immediately reflect all reinstated departures. International connections between Norway and Sweden were also affected: some services on the Oslo-Gothenburg-Malmo route remained cancelled on Saturday, with normal operations expected from Sunday.
