Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' Breaks Tamil Opening Record With About ₹4.1 Billion Worldwide in Four Days

Tamil action film "Jailer 2," starring Rajinikanth, has posted the biggest opening weekend in Tamil cinema history. According to Indian box office trackers, the film grossed about ₹4.1 billion (₹410 crore) worldwide in its first four days after an October 15 release, passing the previous record of ₹3.71 billion held by Rajinikanth's own "Coolie."
Day-by-day figures show roughly ₹2.24 billion from India over four days, with Sunday's take of about ₹617.5 million exceeding the film's opening-day domestic pace, while overseas markets contributed about $20 million. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the film is the sequel to the 2023 hit "Jailer."
Rajinikanth, 75, has been a leading star for decades. The film led screens across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, and its Hindi dubbed version also grew beyond expectations.
With the Dussehra holidays falling on Monday and Tuesday, trade watchers expect the film to approach the ₹5 billion mark and challenge the all-time Tamil benchmarks set by the original "Jailer" and 2018's "2.0."
