Follow-Up: Jailer 2 Passes 2.0 in 11 Days With ₹710 Crore Worldwide to Become the Highest-Grossing Tamil Film Ever

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, reached a worldwide gross of ₹710 crore (about ₹71 billion) by Sunday, October 25, its 11th day in theaters, surpassing the ₹691 crore worldwide total of 2.0 (2018) to become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and the first Tamil film to cross the ₹700 crore mark, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. GSM previously reported the film's four-day global haul of about ₹410 crore and its first-week run past ₹600 crore.

On its 11th day, the film collected a net of ₹25.70 crore in India across 11,954 shows, bringing its India totals to ₹398.70 crore net and ₹466.85 crore gross. Overseas markets added ₹10 crore on Sunday, taking the overseas total to about ₹243.50 crore (roughly $25.6 million). Released worldwide on October 15, Jailer 2 opened with an India net of ₹59 crore on day one, followed by ₹37 crore on day two and ₹47 crore and ₹55 crore over its first weekend; globally it took $31.2 million over three days and $44.5 million over four days across more than 20 markets, ranking second worldwide in its opening weekend.

The milestone weekend also brought a rare public appearance: Sun Pictures, the banner backing the film, posted a video on X saying it was "the first time in 40 years" that Rajinikanth joined fans to watch his film on the big screen, showing the 75-year-old superstar at an IMAX screening alongside director Nelson and composer Anirudh Ravichander. The cast and crew had held a success meet on Saturday, October 24. Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer, picking up three months after the events of the first film; the cast also includes Ramya Krishnan, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan.

The new record gives Rajinikanth the top two spots in Tamil box-office history: 2.0, directed by S. Shankar and co-starring Akshay Kumar, held the record for eight years. Jailer 2 needed only 11 days to pass it, and with the run still going, further milestones will depend on updated figures from the producers and trackers.
