Russian Drone Strike on Park in Nova Vodolaha, Ukraine, Kills Six and Injures 15

A Russian drone struck the central park of Nova Vodolaha, a town in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, at about 4:30 p.m. on October 19, when many families with children were in the park, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi and Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported. Six people were killed and 15 others were injured, including seven children. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X that among the dead was a baby girl, Anhelina, born in August 2025, who was killed in her stroller; her mother, Inna, died in hospital, and another girl killed was 11 years old. Regional authorities later confirmed that the victims also included three women aged 28, 34 and 36. Preliminary findings indicate a Geran-3 drone was used in the strike, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office said, adding that a café building near the site was damaged and that a pre-trial investigation has been opened into a war crime resulting in deaths. Emergency responders, police and medics worked at the scene. Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs protection and air defence. Earlier the same day, Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv overnight killed a 21-year-old woman and injured eight other people, according to Ukrainian authorities. United Nations human rights monitors have reported that Ukrainian civilian deaths and injuries surged 85 percent in September from a year earlier.
