Incendiary Device Thrown at ICE Building in Atlanta, Georgia: No Injuries Reported; Suspect and Motive Unknown, FBI Says

An incendiary device was thrown on the night of October 20 at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in downtown Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. The FBI's Atlanta field office said the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on October 20 at the ICE offices on Ted Turner Drive, in a building the agency shares with an immigration court. In a statement, the FBI said its personnel and evidence response technicians were on site collecting evidence, that there was "no known threat to public safety at this time," and that the investigation was ongoing with no further details currently available.
The Associated Press, citing the FBI statement, reported no injuries and no significant damage; local station FOX 5 reported that no fire broke out and the building did not appear to be damaged, that Atlanta police blocked off the street during the response, and that law enforcement cleared the area at about 1:30 a.m. on October 21. USA Today reported that WSB-TV journalists saw a plastic lighter and shopping bags appearing to contain lighter fluid on the sidewalk near the building, though officials have not confirmed any link between those items and the device. ICE did not respond to requests for comment, and Atlanta police referred questions to federal authorities. As of October 21, officials had released no suspect and no possible motive; no arrests had been made and no person or group had claimed responsibility.
