Follow-Up: Douglasville Man Arrested in Attempted Arson of Atlanta ICE Building

ATLANTA, Georgia — The incendiary-device attack outside the downtown Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building on the night of October 20 has led to an arrest. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia announced on October 23 that Inique Hinton, 31, of Douglasville, was arrested that day on federal charges of attempted arson of a federal building and depredation of government property.
According to information presented in court, security cameras captured Hinton at about 8:12 p.m. on October 20 walking near the ICE building at 180 Ted Turner Drive; minutes later he allegedly ignited an item and threw it toward the building, striking the exterior fence and causing flames to spread. Investigators recovered burned cloth, lighter fluid, a glass bottle and a lighter at the scene. A federal magistrate judge issued a criminal complaint that day, and Hinton was arrested several hours later at a Cobb County residence.
"Attacking a federal building with an incendiary device like a Molotov cocktail is a despicable, terroristic crime," said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. Marlo Graham, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, said those who attack government buildings will be held accountable. The FBI is investigating with assistance from the Atlanta Police Department. The Justice Department noted that a criminal complaint contains only charges and that the defendant is presumed innocent.
