Enes Kanter Freedom Says He Contacted the FBI Over Death Threats Ahead of WNBA Finals Game 3 in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom told OutKick that he is in contact with the FBI after receiving death threats over his plan to attend Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in Atlanta on Wednesday, October 21, including messages warning that he would be "the next Charlie Kirk," Fox News reported. Game 3 pits the Atlanta Dream against the Golden State Valkyries.

Freedom described receiving "thousands of death threats" after announcing that he would attend the game. Asked about the worst threat he had received, he described a message warning that he would be "the next Charlie Kirk," and said some messages included pictures and videos of the moment the conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot. "Look, I'm just simply saying that I'm going to be attending the game," he said. "My DMs are full of pictures and videos of the moment that Charlie Kirk got shot, and they're saying that you're going to be next very soon. It's a shame." Fox News noted that the claimed number of threats and the federal and state security arrangements Freedom described have not been independently confirmed.

Freedom said he had arranged his own security and had spoken with the office of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. "So we are in touch with FBI. We have our own security," he said. "We have a conversation with the governor and he's providing us security as well. But we are in touch with FBI as well. There's going to be a lot of FBI officers around the game, and they will be protecting us." A spokesperson from Kemp's office told OutKick, "Our office connected their team with the appropriate law enforcement resources."

Freedom, a vocal critic of the WNBA's eligibility policies regarding transgender athletes, posted on X: "What's up, Atlanta? I heard y'all loud and clear. Let me remind y'all one thing, I fear God and God alone. See y'all tomorrow...@WNBA." According to the New York Post, he was ejected from a Chicago Sky game in August, has since been banned from Sky home games and has filed a federal lawsuit. The Finals are tied 1-1: the Valkyries won Game 1, 68-64, and the Dream won Game 2, 79-65, before the series shifted to Atlanta for Games 3 and 4.
