A deputy-involved shooting took place on the morning of October 21 in Apple Valley, a town in San Bernardino County, California. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the Victorville Daily Press, a man suspected of assaulting his neighbor was arrested after trading gunfire with deputies. Neither the suspect nor the deputies were injured.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jenny Smith said the incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on October 21 in the 22000 block of Hurons Avenue, just west of Rancho Verde Elementary School. Deputies responded to a report of an assault in which a man had assaulted his neighbor. As deputies instructed the suspect to exit his residence, shots were fired at deputies, who returned fire.

“The suspect was taken into custody,” Smith said. “Neither the suspect nor any deputies were injured during the incident.” The nearby school was briefly placed on lockdown because of its proximity to the scene, and the lockdown was lifted once the incident concluded.

The Sheriff's Department said no further details about the shooting or the preceding assault were available as the investigation continued. Anyone with information can reach the Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division at (909) 890-4904, or provide information anonymously to the WeTip hotline at (844) 909-3096.
