Follow-Up: Apple Valley Neighbor-Dispute Shootout Suspect Identified as Johnny Pando, 26, Held on $1.2M Bail for Attempted Murder

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. — The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department issued an official Nixle advisory on the evening of October 22, identifying the suspect and charges in the previous day's neighbor-dispute deputy-involved shooting in Apple Valley, a town in San Bernardino County, California. The advisory was signed by Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus.
The incident occurred at 8:55 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, in the 22000 block of Hurons Avenue in Apple Valley, where deputies responded to a neighbor-dispute call. According to the advisory, suspect Johnny Pando, 26, a resident of Apple Valley, had beaten a neighbor's dog and thrown fireworks at another neighbor's residence.
When deputies made public-address announcements for Pando to surrender, he fired numerous shots toward the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The advisory confirmed no one was struck by gunfire and Pando surrendered. The location is near Rancho Verde Elementary School, which was briefly placed on lockdown until the incident concluded.
Pando is booked at the High Desert Detention Center for attempted murder (California Penal Code 664/187), with bail set at $1,200,000, and remains in custody. The Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division has assumed the investigation, case DR#182606346 / H#2026-092. Anyone with information may contact Detective A.
