Follow-Up: Arcadia Shooting Suspect Identified as Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., 20; He Shot Himself as Pasadena Officers Prepared to Make Contact, Remains Critical
There are new developments in the fatal shooting inside a home in Arcadia, a city in Los Angeles County, California. In an updated advisory issued Oct. 22, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) said investigators have identified the suspect as Paul Anthony Cruz Jr., 20, who had been in a dating relationship with the juvenile female victim fatally shot inside the residence. Cruz was located later that day in Pasadena, where he shot himself as officers prepared to make contact with him; he was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
According to LASD, the shooting occurred at about 11:07 a.m. on Oct. 22 at a residence in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive. Investigators determined that Cruz forced entry into the home and shot the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene; no additional persons were injured. Authorities have not released the juvenile victim's name. As GSM reported earlier in the day, Arcadia Police Department officers responding to a report of a man firing a gun inside the residence found that the shooter had already fled, and the LASD Homicide Bureau began assisting Arcadia police with the investigation.
About one hour later, Pasadena Police Department officers located Cruz in the city of Pasadena. As the officers were preparing to contact him, Cruz sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Cruz is a suspect in the case and has not been convicted; the investigation is ongoing. The Homicide Bureau, under Lieutenant German Ochoa, is assisting the Arcadia Police Department.
