Indiana: Governor Urges August Storm Victims to Apply for FEMA Aid Before October 25 Deadline

Thursday, October 22, 2026 · States · GSM News

Indiana Governor Mike Braun is urging residents affected by August's severe weather and flooding to apply for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) before the October 25 deadline. According to the Governor's Office, roughly 200 residents are still in the state's emergency shelter program.

A federal major disaster declaration was approved in August covering 21 Indiana counties. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security will lead the transition from state-funded hotel stays to rental homes and other housing arrangements for people who remain displaced.

Affected residents should complete their FEMA applications before the deadline so they do not miss eligibility, the governor's announcement said; the Department of Homeland Security will work with displaced residents on the housing transition.
