Follow-Up: FBI Wraps Up Three-Week Search of Olney Home: Five of Seven Missing Women Believed Dead

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — In Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, the FBI and Philadelphia police on Friday, October 23, formally wrapped up an intensive three-week search of a home on Chew Avenue in the Olney neighborhood, believed to be connected to the disappearance of seven women. Authorities said investigators had completed evidence gathering at the property.
Investigators had earlier seized computers and hard drives from the home containing more than one million digital images and videos. After reviewing that evidence, investigators believe five of the missing women are dead, according to law enforcement sources. The search found numerous animal bones in the backyard but no human remains.
The home is connected to Eugene Horsch, 44, who was arrested in June during a traffic stop in Old City, which led investigators to his Olney home. Beginning three weeks ago, agents in hazmat suits and heavy equipment were seen at the property, sifting through the backyard soil. On Friday, crews broke down their equipment and the backyard was left cleared and leveled. A photo of Gabrielle Amarando, one of the missing women, was left outside the home by her family.
Horsch remains in federal custody, facing charges from his June arrest, when he was allegedly found with drugs and firearms. Authorities said the fate and whereabouts of all seven missing women have not been fully determined, and the investigation continues.
