Follow-up: Trump-Aligned Super PAC Spends $112,300 on TV Ads as Indiana's 5th District Race Heats Up

Indianapolis, Indiana — A Trump-aligned super PAC, No Going Back PAC Inc., has filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to spend $112,300 on 49 television spots on Indianapolis-area station WTHR starting October 23, the Indianapolis Star reported on October 23. According to the WTHR order form, the 30-second spots are "non-candidate issue ads" targeting an unnamed U.S. House race; the buy is widely seen as intended to boost Republican U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz, who is facing Democratic state Sen. J.D. Ford in Indiana's 5th Congressional District.

As GSM reported on October 21, several political ratings agencies have moved the district from "safe R" to "likely R." Indiana's 5th District rating downgraded: Spartz's seat moved from "safe R" to "likely R"

The purchase is another sign that the district may not be as safe for Spartz as previously thought. She won the district two years ago by about 18 percentage points, and President Trump carried it by 17 points; yet in this year's Republican primary, an unfunded, largely unknown challenger earned about 40% of the vote. Ford has nearly matched Spartz in individual contributions, and a national super PAC has committed $2 million to anti-Spartz ads; Spartz also recently loaned hundreds of thousands of dollars of her own money to her campaign.

In September, The New York Times described No Going Back PAC as a new super PAC that had begun reserving at least $49 million in advertisements to aid Republicans in battleground races; Federal Election Commission (FEC) data shows it is mainly backed by MAGA Inc., Trump's main super PAC, which has contributed $200 million so far. Jake Sherman, founder of Punchbowl News, first noted the buy in an October 22 evening post on X. As of 11 a.m. on October 23, no other Indianapolis-area station had noted an order from the PAC, according to FCC records.
