Follow-Up: South Florida’s First Early-Voting Weekend Draws Voters; Miami-Dade Supervisor Expects Turnout Above 60 Percent

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · City · GSM News

Follow-up: On Saturday, October 24, 2026, early voting in South Florida reached its first weekend, with voting sites drawing steady crowds. Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia said general-election turnout is usually higher than in the primaries, which is why the county expanded early voting, and with a governor's race on the ballot she expects turnout of at least 60 percent this cycle.

As GSM reported earlier, Miami-Dade County has 28 early-voting sites this cycle, five more than in the primaries; neighboring Broward County has 30, nine more than in the primaries; and Monroe County's five sites are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 31.

Jorge Hahn, who voted Saturday at the Miami-Dade elections headquarters, said he stopped by while running weekend errands and found no lines and a quick process. Humberto Rubio of Miramar said he voted early because he will be out of town on Election Day and wanted to make sure his ballot counts.

Election officials remind voters that early voters may use any site in their county, while on Election Day they must go to their assigned precinct. Mail ballots can be returned at early-voting sites and must arrive by 7 p.m. on Election Day to count.
