Texas Hosts Ole Miss Tonight: Manning Seeks to Stop the Slide as Top Running Back and Pass Rusher Are Both Out

Saturday, October 24, 2026 · States · GSM News

The University of Texas football team hosts the University of Mississippi on the night of Oct. 24 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC. It is the teams' first meeting since Texas joined the SEC in 2024, and a matchup of top-20 teams. For Texas the stakes are heavy: after consecutive losses to two then-unranked opponents, the Longhorns' playoff hopes are on the edge, and head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterback Arch Manning are under intense pressure. Manning, a starter for the past two seasons with a 14-5 record, this season led wins over then-No. 1 Ohio State and No. 14 Tennessee (a 20-17 win on Sept. 26), but has thrown five interceptions in six games and has no rushing touchdown this season after recording 10 last season. The injury report released Oct. 23 made matters worse: national sacks leader Colin Simmons was ruled out Thursday, top running back "Hollywood" Smothers joined the out list Friday, and defensive end Richard Wesley is also unavailable. Ole Miss arrives ranked No. 7 in the nation after beating Vanderbilt and Missouri by a combined 83-20.
