Follow-Up: DC's 'Clayface' Leads the North American Box Office: 0.4 Million Opening Day, 4 Million Weekend Projected

Warner Bros. and DC Studios' new film "Clayface" opened across North America on Friday, October 23, earning $10.4 million on its opening day to lead the weekend box office. According to TheWrap's October 24 report, the film is currently estimated to take about $24 million over its opening weekend from 3,458 locations, a respectable start against its reported $40 million production budget for a mid-budget release.
"Clayface" is the DC Universe's first attempt at R-rated body horror, telling the origin story of the Batman-world villain. Its reception has started strong: on Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 76% critics score and a 93% audience score, and it received an A- grade from CinemaScore. The report says that word of mouth should help the film hold through Halloween and beyond, turning it into a modest mid-budget theatrical success for Warner Bros., which has had an extremely difficult 2026 with underperformers including "Digger," "Supergirl" and "Practical Magic 2."
The weekend's other winner is A24's documentary "You Can See Everything," about Elizabeth Holmes. In its second weekend the film expanded from 855 to 2,655 locations, rising 28% from its opening weekend to an estimated $20 million, which will bring its domestic total to about $45 million and makes it the highest-grossing documentary of the past decade. Laika's new animated film "Wildwood" placed third with $4.3 million on its opening day from 2,752 locations and a projected $11 million to $12 million weekend, close to the $12.6 million opening of the studio's previous film, "Kubo and the Two Strings," in 2016; "Wildwood" holds 100% critics and 98% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes and an A from CinemaScore.
