Follow-up: Five Victims Released From Hospital After Florida A&M Homecoming Shooting in Tallahassee, Six Remain Hospitalized With One Critical; Police Open Dedicated Tip Line

Police in Tallahassee, Florida, said on Sunday morning, October 25, that five of the victims of the October 24 shooting outside Bragg Memorial Stadium at Florida A&M University (FAMU) had been released from the hospital, while six remained hospitalized, one of them in critical condition. Police also opened a dedicated tip line as the investigation entered its second day; as of midday Sunday no one had been arrested and police had not named any person of interest.

As GSM reported earlier, the gunfire erupted shortly before 8 p.m. on October 24, soon after the university's homecoming football game, near Perry Street and Manatee Street behind the stadium. Twelve people were injured in all: 11 were shot, six of the wounded were juveniles, the youngest was 11, at least one was a FAMU student, and a 12th victim, the grandmother of one of the people shot, was injured while fleeing. The game had drawn 20,549 fans and ended with the Rattlers losing 31-28 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

At a midnight news conference, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said preliminary information indicated an altercation between two or three individuals preceded the shooting, that police believe it was an isolated incident and that a single shooter fired into the crowd, and that what set it off remains under investigation. He said officers carried victims through the crowd to get them care, and that detectives and forensic personnel worked the scene overnight.

In a midday update on October 25, police said detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit had worked overnight reviewing digital evidence and following investigative leads, and continued canvassing the area and collecting physical evidence on Sunday morning. Police established a dedicated tip line for the case at 850-891-4610 and an online evidence submission portal for photos and videos, and said anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS. "We will determine what happened, identify those responsible, and get answers for all of the victims, their families and everyone impacted by this tragedy," Revell said. "We need our community's help. No detail is too small."

Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey called the shooting a "truly horrific and heartbreaking tragedy" in a post on X, writing: "Tonight and in the days ahead, the FAMU family is not alone. Our entire community stands with you." FAMU had earlier shared its condolences and said the campus remains safe.

Police have not released the victims' names. FAMU is a historically Black university with nearly 10,000 students, and homecoming weekend is one of the biggest events of its year; the Tallahassee Democrat reported the shooting was among the city's worst mass shootings in recent history by victim count.
