Prince's '3121' Expanded Edition Arrives December 11 With 10 Unreleased Vault Recordings
Prince's NPG Records and The Prince Estate announced on October 29 that '3121 Expanded Edition' will arrive worldwide on December 11, digitally and in 3LP + Blu-ray and 2CD + Blu-ray sets, marking the 20th anniversary of Prince's chart-topping 2006 album.
The expanded digital edition pairs the original 12-track album with 10 additional raw recordings from Prince's Vault, including the previously unreleased 'Time of Ur Life,' 'The Streets of Panama,' 'Another Girl' and 'Glass Cutter,' alongside acoustic versions of 'The Word,' 'Love' and 'Te Amo Corazón.' Preorders and presaves launched with the announcement, together with 'Time of Ur Life' and a live performance video of 'Black Sweat.' The physical editions add a Blu-ray of live concert footage filmed during Prince's 2007 Las Vegas residency.
The celebration includes two further releases: '3121 Las Vegas Live,' capturing more than two hours of Prince's January 20, 2007 Las Vegas performance, arrives November 27 on 3LP crystal blue vinyl and 2CD for Record Store Day Black Friday; and the 154-minute concert film 'Prince: 3121 Las Vegas Concert,' presented in 4K and Dolby Atmos, opens in U.S. and Canadian theaters for a limited run beginning December 3, with tickets on sale November 11.
Originally released March 21, 2006, through NPG Records and Universal Music, '3121' became Prince's first album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his fourth album to top the chart. 'Twenty years later, '3121' remains a classic and a reminder of an extraordinary period in Prince's career,' said L. Londell McMillan, Prince's longtime attorney and manager. 'This expanded edition offers another opportunity to experience the music and spirit of that extraordinary era.' Vocalist Támar Davis, who sang on the original album, said: 'Collaborating with Prince and the talented musicians on '3121' was an honor.' (Source: NPG Records / The Prince Estate)
