Minnesota Measles Cases Rise to 80 on October 30: Week 30 of the Outbreak, Up 20 in Two Weeks, as Health Officials Urge Vaccination

The Minnesota Department of Health reported on October 29 that the state has recorded 80 measles cases in 2026, the most in a single year since 1990 — a 36-year high.
The department said all but two of the cases were among people who had not received two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 71 percent of cases are in children younger than 18. Health Commissioner Dr. Brooke Cunningham urged residents to check their vaccination records and advised anyone recommended for the vaccine who has not been vaccinated to contact a health care provider and get vaccinated now.
Officials said most people who get measles recover, but the disease can cause lifelong complications or death; more than 4,500 measles cases have been reported in the United States this year. The department expects Minnesota to see more cases in the coming weeks and months, noting measles is highly contagious and a single introduction into a community with low vaccination coverage can quickly lead to an outbreak.
