Follow-Up: Rep. Haley Stevens Formally Endorses Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan Senate Race

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

Michigan's U.S. Senate race took another turn two days before Election Day: Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens released a video on Sunday, November 1, formally endorsing Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers. GSM reported earlier the same day that she had appeared alongside Rogers at a Detroit church; the endorsement video is the latest development in the story.

In the video, Stevens said Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed had told her she was no longer welcome in his campaign and should stay away, adding, 'And he's right.' She continued: 'And that's why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today. I don't belong in Abdul's campaign.' She also said she remains a 'very proud Democrat' and called the race a matter of 'the conscience of the Senate.'

Stevens lost this year's Democratic primary to El-Sayed by about one percentage point. The two clashed publicly last week after Stevens demanded that El-Sayed condemn an outside group's ad blaming high prices on U.S. support for Israel; El-Sayed hit back and asked her not to attend a planned Sunday unity event. Her fiance, Jason Turkish, had already publicly said he would vote for Rogers.

Rogers responded that he was 'really proud to have her vote' and said many Democrats are joining his campaign. Michigan Democratic Party chairman Curtis Hertel condemned Stevens' decision in a statement, calling Rogers 'Donald Trump's handpicked candidate for Senate' and saying the party stands united behind El-Sayed.

El-Sayed currently leads Rogers by 3.5 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics polling average, while the Rogers campaign says its internal polling shows him ahead. Rogers, a former congressman and FBI agent, lost his 2024 Senate race by less than half a percentage point. The Michigan seat is seen as one of the battlegrounds that could decide control of the Senate; voting takes place on November 3.
