Mozart's Jupiter Symphony on Feb. 27 and 28: Pianist Benedetto Lupo Makes His Debut
The Jacobs Music Center in San Diego, San Diego County, California, hosts an all-Mozart San Diego Symphony Masterworks program on Feb. 27, 2027, at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. Canadian conductor Bernard Labadie leads the orchestra, and Italian pianist Benedetto Lupo makes his debut with the ensemble. The program is all Mozart: the Chaconne from Idomeneo, the Piano Concerto No. 23 and the Symphony No. 41, Jupiter.
Written in 1788, the Jupiter was Mozart's last symphony; its finale, weaving five themes into a fugue, is considered the summit of the Classical symphony. The slow movement of the Piano Concerto No. 23, scored for piano and strings alone, is among the most beloved concerto movements ever written. Labadie, a leading interpreter of Baroque and Classical repertoire, founded Les Violons du Roy in Quebec.
The venue is the Jacobs Music Center, 1245 Seventh Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. Tickets are sold through the orchestra's official channels.
Founded in 1910, the San Diego Symphony is California's oldest orchestra, with 82 full-time musicians; its music and artistic director is Rafael Payare.
