CPSC Warns: Two Combination Smoke and CO Alarms Sold on Amazon and eBay May Fail to Sound

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued two warnings on October 29 urging consumers to immediately stop using two combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms sold on Amazon and eBay, saying the devices can fail to sound in the presence of smoke and fire and pose a risk of serious injury or death.
The first warning covers model JZA-540COM alarms sold under the JuzhiAnn, Yfwsrecinoe and JAEHSKA brand names. About 51,825 units were sold from November 2023 through October 2026 for $11 to $107. The alarms were made by Shenzhen Laijinhe Trading Co., Ltd. of China, doing business as Yfwsrecinoe US, and CPSC is aware of seven reports of the alarms failing to alert in the presence of smoke or fire. The second warning covers GuardianSense and KLTseanife model YHW-542COM-R alarms sold from September 2025 through June 2026 for $18 to $168, with two failure reports. Both models are white plastic combination alarms with digital displays, sold singly and in multipacks.
CPSC said the sellers have been unresponsive to its requests to recall the products, so the agency issued warnings rather than recalls, and there is no refund or replacement program. Consumers should stop using the alarms immediately, dispose of them, and not sell or give them away, then install working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
When buying replacements, CPSC says to choose only alarms that meet the UL 217 standard for smoke alarms and the UL 2034 standard for carbon monoxide alarms. Alarms should be installed on every level of the home and outside separate sleeping areas, and should be battery operated or have battery backup. Consumers who have experienced an alarm failure can report it at SaferProducts.gov.
