Wise Wife Ground Cinnamon Recalled Over Elevated Lead Levels in 14 States

SLR Food Distribution Inc. of Hicksville, New York, is voluntarily recalling Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon because the product has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. The Food and Drug Administration posted the recall announcement on October 29.
The recalled product is a 110-gram (3.88-ounce) clear plastic container with a black screw-top cap, a Best Before date of April 25, 2027, and UPC 0688474302754 printed on the back label. It was distributed between September 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026, to retail and grocery stores in 14 states: Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The recall began after a sample collected and analyzed by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station revealed elevated levels of lead in the product. The company says no illnesses have been reported to date. Lead is a toxic metal, and exposure to enough of it over weeks to months can permanently damage the central nervous system and cause learning and developmental problems, particularly in children.
Consumers should not eat the recalled cinnamon. They should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to SLR Food Distribution at 516-437-3782, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The same distributor recalled a different size of Wise Wife cinnamon in September 2025 after testing also found elevated lead levels.
