Follow-Up: Indiana Governor Denies Clemency for Death Row Inmate Jeffrey Weisheit; November 5 Execution to Proceed

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced on November 2 that he has denied clemency for death row inmate Jeffrey Weisheit. GSM reported on October 29 that the state Parole Board had unanimously recommended denying clemency and that the administration had rejected Weisheit's brain-scan request the same week; the governor's decision accepts the Parole Board's unanimous recommendation and rejects Weisheit's request for life without parole.

Braun said in a statement that the Indiana Department of Correction will continue preparations to carry out the court-ordered execution on November 5, 2026, scheduled before sunrise at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. The department confirmed on November 2 that it paid $275,000 for execution drugs and has them in its possession. Braun's statement did not specifically address a separate request from Weisheit's attorneys for a temporary reprieve to review Indiana's execution drug purchases and lethal injection safeguards.

Weisheit, 50, was sentenced to death in 2013 for murdering 8-year-old Alyssa Lynch and her 5-year-old brother, Caleb, in a 2010 house fire near Evansville. The Parole Board voted unanimously on October 28 to recommend against clemency.
