DFW Airport Completes Third End-Around Taxiway Early Under $12 Billion Upgrade Program

Monday, November 2, 2026 · City · GSM News

In Tarrant County, Texas, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport announced on November 2 that its Southwest End-Around Taxiway has been completed ahead of schedule. It is the airport's third end-around taxiway and part of the $12 billion DFW Forward capital program.

End-around taxiways let arriving aircraft move around active runways without crossing them, reducing runway conflicts, improving aircraft movement and cutting taxi times by an average of four minutes per flight, which also lowers airline operating costs. The new taxiway features more than 600 LED light fixtures, 145,000 linear feet of electrical cable and nearly 97,000 square yards of concrete pavement.

The airport said the Federal Aviation Administration has provided $180 million in grants for its end-around taxiway program; the first such taxiway was completed in 2008 and the Northeast End-Around Taxiway in May 2022. DFW is the only airport in the United States with end-around taxiways at both ends of a runway.

The airport expects to handle 100 million passengers a year by 2030, and the program also covers terminal and passenger-experience modernization.
