Wisconsin Governor Appoints Judge Emily Lonergan to Court of Appeals District III

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced on November 2 his appointment of Judge Emily Lonergan to the Court of Appeals, District III. The appointment fills the vacancy created by Presiding Judge Lisa K. Stark's retirement, and Lonergan will complete a term ending July 31, 2029.
Lonergan has served as an Outagamie County Circuit Court judge since 2019, presiding over criminal, civil, family, small claims, traffic, and juvenile cases, and has overseen an Outagamie County Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court. Earlier in her career she was a criminal defense and personal injury attorney in Appleton and Milwaukee, with experience in complex business and contract litigation, appellate litigation, and healthcare law. She lives in Appleton and is a graduate of Marquette University and Marquette University Law School.
Evers called Lonergan a well-respected jurist with years of experience, integrity, and a passion for the law. Judge Stark praised her diverse legal background and commitment to applying the law fairly. Lonergan said she was honored to succeed Judge Stark and would listen with an open mind and decide based on the rule of law.
With the appointment, the governor also announced he is seeking applicants for the Outagamie County Circuit Court, Branch 2, to fill the vacancy created by Lonergan's appointment. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2028, and applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2026.
