Australia: Government Commits $7.4 Million for National Peak Body for Veterans' Organisations Under Royal Commission Recommendation 89

Australia's Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel, Matt Keogh, announced on November 3 that the Albanese Government is investing $7.4 million over four years to support the establishment and initial operations of an independent, member-based, not-for-profit national peak body for ex-service organisations (ESOs) and veteran-serving organisations (VSOs), so veterans benefit from strengthened representation.
The funding delivers on recommendation 89 of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, which called for the establishment of a national peak body for ex-service organisations.
The Royal Commission conducted a long-running inquiry into defence and veteran suicide and issued a series of reform recommendations spanning the veteran support system, data and institutional coordination; the peak body was identified as a key measure to strengthen representation and coordination across the sector.
