North Korea: KCNA Quotes Kim Yo Jong Denying Binance Heist Link, Calling US Claim Absurd Rhetoric

North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported on November 3 that Pyongyang denies US claims linking it to the cryptocurrency heist at the Binance exchange, calling the assertion "absurd rhetoric" that is nothing new. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation said at the weekend that North Korea was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance, in what could be the largest-ever financial heist.
KCNA quoted Kim Yo Jong, a ruling party official and the influential sister of leader Kim Jong Un, as saying the FBI is trying to brand North Korea a "cyber criminal state" by claiming a hacking organisation "supported" by Pyongyang was involved. She called it a grave political provocation that misleads international public opinion as if all cyber crimes around the world were North Korea's deeds.
GSM reported on October 29 that $6.3 billion was stolen from Binance, with about $3 billion frozen and the company pledging full reimbursement; Pyongyang's public denial is the latest development in the case. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung referred to the theft at a cabinet meeting the same day as he called for a government-wide cybersecurity body, while the National Intelligence Service launched emergency inspections of more than 2,100 institutions.
