Russian Bombs Hit Ukraine Aid Distribution Site, Killing 31 With About 48 Missing

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · World · GSM News

KYIV, Ukraine — Officials in the village of Komyshuvakha in Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region said on Tuesday, November 3, that the death toll from Russia's November 2 bombing of a humanitarian aid distribution site and a nearby shelter has risen to 31, with about 48 people still missing and at least five injured. The dead include four police officers and two rescue workers. Rescuers were still searching the rubble for buried residents on Tuesday, the toll may rise further, and the incident is still developing.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, the site was a school that had stopped operating because of its proximity to the front line and had been converted into a humanitarian aid distribution point where local residents received survival supplies every week. Zelenskyy said the first Russian strike fell as residents were arriving to collect aid, and a second wave then dropped nine aerial bombs directly on the shelter where people had taken cover. He called the attack "exceptionally horrific" and said Russia "could not have been unaware" that residents received aid there every week. Semikin said on local television that almost 50 people remained missing and called the scale of the tragedy one of the worst in terms of civilian victims in the region since the start of the full-scale war. The Zaporizhzhia region has declared mourning for the victims. The Russian military has not publicly commented on the attack.

The death toll climbed steadily from Monday into Tuesday: Zelenskyy initially reported 18 dead, Ukraine's State Emergency Service then confirmed 24, the figure rose to 26 by late Monday, and officials reported 29 and then 31 on Tuesday. Rescue work has been repeatedly hampered by Russian drone activity, and people remain buried under the rubble.

On the same night, Russia launched a large-scale air attack across Ukraine. Zelenskyy said Russian forces fired 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles at power and other infrastructure across nine regions, triggering emergency power cuts. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, a medical facility was damaged in a missile and drone attack that local officials said wounded at least 62 people.

Komyshuvakha lies less than 10 miles (about 16 km) from the front line. U.S., Ukrainian and Russian representatives are reported to be scheduled to meet in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. As of publication, rescue operations in Komyshuvakha were continuing, and casualty figures remain subject to further official updates. (Source: Associated Press)
