Giant Pandas Fu Shuang and Ping Ping to Make Public Debut at Zoo Atlanta on November 6

Zoo Atlanta announced that giant pandas Fu Shuang and Ping Ping will make their public debut on November 6 in a newly renovated panda habitat. The zoo is in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. The pair arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on September 27 to begin a 10-year loan, making Zoo Atlanta one of only three zoos in the United States housing giant pandas. The new habitat, named the Arthur M. Blank Panda Grove, was upgraded from the previous panda habitat with a $6 million renovation, and the viewing experience will be entirely different from before.
Zoo Atlanta has restarted its International Cooperative Research Agreement on Giant Panda Conservation with the China Wildlife Conservation Association. The zoo's previous pandas, Lun Lun and Yang Yang and their cubs Ya Lun and Xi Lun, returned to China in 2024, and the habitat had stood empty since. Raymond B. King, the zoo's president and CEO, said November 6 will be a momentous occasion in the zoo's history, thanking the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and the philanthropic community for their long-standing support, investment and vision for the panda program.
The panda loan program has long been a symbol of people-to-people exchange between China and the United States; all giant pandas living abroad remain the property of China and travel only on loan. The arrival of a new pair in Atlanta follows a new agreement between the two countries on panda cooperation and has drawn eager anticipation from the local Chinese community and animal lovers. The zoo cautions that crowds may be heavy in the early days and advises visitors to check its published viewing arrangements and plan their trips accordingly.
