Washington Think Tank Holds Webinar on Foreign Threats to U.S. Education

WASHINGTON — The Committee on the Present Danger: China (CPDC), a Washington-based think tank, held a webinar on November 3 from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. Eastern Time titled "Danger on Campus: The CCP and Other National Security Threats To and Through America's Education System," moderated by the committee's vice chairman, Frank Gaffney.
Panelists included Karen Siegemund, president of the American Freedom Alliance, and Brian Kennedy of the American Strategy Group, with Xi Van Fleet, author of "Mao's America," invited to take part. The webinar focused on how foreign actors exert influence through American schools and universities, including issues involving intellectual property theft, and how U.S. educational institutions and policymakers should respond.
In its event materials, the committee said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had announced on October 23 that the United States would shut down some 80 operations tied to Chinese intellectual-property theft and influence activities on 30 university campuses, and presented that announcement as the backdrop for the discussion. The webinar took place on the afternoon of the November 3 midterm Election Day, with topics spanning education policy and national security.
