Chinese Seniors in Sudbury Gather Twice at Warm Home, Finding Belonging in Dance and Music

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

A report published November 2 from the Chinese community in Boston's western suburbs described how the Warm Home Adult Day Health Center in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, hosted Chinese seniors for cultural gatherings on two consecutive weekends, showing the seniors' love of life and raising the topic of companionship and cultural belonging in later years.

On October 24, six Chinese seniors visited Warm Home together. What began as an ordinary tour of the facility and its future services turned into an impromptu dance party full of laughter when one senior took out a tablet and played familiar ballroom dance music.

On the morning of November 1, eight Chinese seniors returned. Literary conversation, mahjong and ballroom-dance teaching unfolded in different corners of the hall, before the lilting sound of the hulusi and familiar songs drew everyone back together. Neither gathering had a prearranged program or a divide between performers and audience; the seniors took part in their own favorite ways and became the creators of the joy. During the visits, Warm Home founder Wen Youping described the center's founding purpose and its hope of adding cultural exchange, social participation and emotional care on top of professional health services, while co-founder Liu Yingzi drew on her years in adult day services to outline future daily activities, meals, transportation, safety management and related arrangements.
