MSC Poesia's 11-Night Sailing Canceled After Coast Guard Holds Ship in Miami
Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida — MSC Cruises announced on Tuesday morning, November 3, that the current sailing of MSC Poesia from Miami was canceled, disrupting the plans of thousands of guests.
The ship was scheduled to depart PortMiami at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, on an 11-night southern and western Caribbean itinerary. Guests boarded on Sunday, but a U.S. Coast Guard inspection kept the ship in port. It should have reached its first call, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, at 9 a.m. on November 3; shortly after 10 a.m., guests were told the voyage was canceled, with full refunds and compensation promised. Coast Guard Sector Miami said the ship was detained to verify compliance with U.S. regulations and international standards, without disclosing details; the line said the inspection was not a CDC vessel-sanitation check.
The itinerary also included Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Belize, returning November 12, when a 10-night eastern Caribbean sailing is scheduled to depart Miami.
