Second Missouri Beer Cup Winners Announced; Two Kansas City Breweries Take Brewery of the Year Honors

The Missouri Craft Brewers Guild announced the winners of the second Missouri Beer Cup on November 3, the state's only statewide competition devoted exclusively to Missouri craft breweries, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. This year's contest drew 226 beers from 30 breweries across 25 categories, judged by certified judges. Brewery of the Year for breweries producing under 1,000 barrels went to Kansas City's BKS Artisan Ales, and for those over 1,000 barrels to Kansas City Bier Company; Best of Show went to Dark Matter, a dark porter from Columbia's Logboat Brewing Company.
In category results, Logboat's German pilsner won gold in the international pale lager and European pale bitter lager category, Kansas City Bier Company's dunkel won gold in the dark beer category, and Springfield Brewing Company's margarita-style squeezed sour won gold in the sour category. The guild said the competition showcases the standard of craft brewing across Missouri, with winning breweries from Kansas City, Columbia, Springfield and other cities reflecting the spread and vitality of the state's craft industry.
