National Weather Service Issues Flood Warning for Rio Chama, Some Roads Closed

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Chama, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico — The National Weather Service office in Albuquerque issued a flood warning in the early hours of November 3 for areas along the Rio Chama in northern New Mexico's Rio Arriba County. The warning was issued at 4:22 a.m., initially in effect until noon, and was later extended until 9 p.m.

Forecasters said flooding from excessive rainfall was continuing, with high water on the Rio Chama between the Colorado border and El Vado Reservoir, and some roads in the town of Chama remained closed by flooding. Affected locations include Chama, Brazos, Los Ojos and La Puente.

The Weather Service warned that flooding could inundate low-lying roads along the river and urged drivers not to drive into flooded roadways and to follow the latest local water updates. Residents along the Rio Chama should avoid closed roads and monitor official updates; forecasters will revise the warning as rainfall and river levels change.
