San Gabriel City Council Candidate Wendy Wang Wins Backing From Multiple Labor Unions

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

SAN GABRIEL, California — Voters in San Gabriel, a city in Los Angeles County, California, cast ballots on November 3 in the City Council election, in which Chinese American candidate Wendy Wang has won formal endorsements from multiple labor organizations, including SEIU Local 2015, Teamsters Joint Council 42 and LIUNA Local 300. California State Senator Bob Archuleta and Walnut Mayor Allen Wu are among the elected officials who have publicly backed her candidacy.

Wang immigrated to the United States at age six and has lived in San Gabriel for nearly 23 years. A small-business owner and nonprofit leader, she has nearly nine years of frontline caregiving experience and is herself a member of SEIU Local 2015. Three seats are open in this year's San Gabriel City Council election, and Wang is running as an at-large candidate. If elected, she would become San Gabriel's first Asian American woman city councilor. The city takes its name from the San Gabriel Mission, founded in 1771, and is one of the oldest cities in Los Angeles County.

On policy, Wang says the city should explain to residents how existing tax revenue is used before considering any tax increase, and she pledges to restore the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce, create a one-stop business services window and open up competitive public bidding for city contracts. Results of the San Gabriel City Council election will be released and certified by Los Angeles County election officials after the count is complete.
