DURHAM, North Carolina — Total turnout in Durham County, North Carolina surpassed the 2022 midterms by the time polls closed on November 3. Figures from the Durham County Board of Elections show 33,462 voters cast ballots on Election Day as of the 7:30 p.m. poll closing; combined with 112,845 ballots cast during early voting, the county's total has exceeded the 128,364 ballots of the 2022 midterm election. Voters still in line were permitted to vote, so the final total will rise further.

Durham County sits in the Triangle, a pivotal voting region in North Carolina this cycle. Alongside statewide offices such as U.S. senator and state supreme court justice, the ballot carried three proposed state constitutional amendments covering voter ID requirements, a cap on the state income tax rate, and the legislature's power to limit local property-tax revenue. On-site reporting indicated that about three-quarters of early voters in Durham and Orange counties voted against the three amendments.

At the Durham County Main Library polling site, a steady stream of voters continued through midday, with many citing prices and the cost of living as their top reason for turning out. Election officials reminded voters that the figures are unofficial, pending the county canvass on November 13 and the state canvass on November 24.
