Castor Holds Tampa's 14th District Seat With 51.19 Percent as AP Calls the Race

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

On the night of November 3, 2026, the Associated Press called Florida's 14th Congressional District, centered on Tampa in Hillsborough County, for Democratic incumbent Rep. Kathy Castor at 8:13 p.m., declaring her the winner over Republican challenger Mike Beltran. According to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, as of 8:14 p.m., with 222 of 234 precincts reporting, Castor held 51.19 percent of the vote.

Castor has served in the House for 20 years, but this race was unusually close because of redistricting: the old 14th District included Democratic-leaning parts of Pinellas County and St. Petersburg, while the new, governor-approved map placed the district entirely within Hillsborough County, covering much of Tampa and communities in the county's south and east. Winning a majority in the redrawn district showed her Tampa base held despite the boundary changes.

Florida polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day, with voters also deciding the governorship, a U.S. Senate seat and three state constitutional amendments. Castor's win was among the first congressional results confirmed in the Tampa Bay area that night; official results remain subject to county canvassing.
