Follow-up: Counting Update: Tuberville Leads Jones in Alabama Governor's Race, AP Says Too Early to Call

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

After polls closed at 7 p.m. Central on November 3 in Alabama, counting in the governor's race continued. In the Associated Press's latest tally, with about 60 percent of the expected vote counted, Republican Tommy Tuberville had 595,266 votes to Democrat Doug Jones's 531,277. Tuberville led for now, but the AP still rated the race Too Early to Call and had not declared a winner.

The governor's race is a rematch of the 2020 U.S. Senate election, when Tuberville defeated then-Senator Jones to win the Senate seat. Tuberville gave up the Senate seat to run for governor, while incumbent Governor Kay Ivey is barred by term limits from seeking a third full term. The same ballot also included U.S. senator, attorney general, secretary of state and other state offices, and final results are subject to certification by the Secretary of State's office.
