Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said on November 3 that it is investigating the October 27 off-duty death of Kansas Highway Patrol Major Brent Hoglin in Osage County. KBI communications director Melissa Underwood said that day that the investigation had so far found no indications of homicide and that no further information about the investigation would be released. Hoglin was 49 and died suddenly while off duty after 27 years of service with the Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol posted on social media that Major Hoglin devoted 27 years to the patrol as a state trooper, that his passing is a great loss to the patrol and the entire law enforcement community, and that it offered heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who served alongside him in his distinguished career. The KBI did not release a cause of death or say when the investigation is expected to conclude, and the Highway Patrol likewise released no details of funeral or memorial arrangements. The death occurred on October 27, and the KBI did not publicly confirm until November 3 that it was investigating and had reached preliminary conclusions.
