AP Declares Andrews Winner of South Carolina U.S. Senate Race Over Graham

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

The Associated Press on the night of November 3 declared Democrat Annie Andrews the winner of South Carolina's U.S. Senate election, defeating Republican incumbent Senator Darline Graham. At the time of the AP call, 2,049 of the state's 2,312 precincts had reported, about 88.62%, with Andrews at 984,027 votes and Graham at 916,267. Andrews will become the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina and the first Democrat to win a U.S. Senate race in the state since 1998.

The race was transformed this summer: Republican Senator Lindsey Graham died unexpectedly about a month after winning his primary, and his sister Darline Graham was appointed to fill the seat, then won the August 11 primary and a runoff two weeks later to become the Republican nominee. Andrews, a pediatrician, was neck and neck with Graham in final-week polling; early election-night returns were close before Andrews held her lead. Separately, the South Carolina State Election Commission announced on November 3 that total statewide turnout set a record for a gubernatorial election year: as of 4:30 p.m., 1,797,335 voters had cast ballots, 52.3% of registered voters, surpassing the 2018 record of 1,726,527. Final results must be officially certified.
