Counting Update: Crowley Leads Tiffany With 1,034,278 Votes in Wisconsin Governor's Race

On the night of November 3, after Wisconsin's polls closed at 8 p.m. and counting advanced in the 2026 midterms, Democrat David Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive, held a temporary lead in the governor's race. According to Associated Press figures, with 66.38% of precincts reporting, Crowley had 1,034,278 votes and Republican U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany had 868,157; the AP lists the race as too early to call, and the outcome is far from settled.
The election will decide who succeeds Democratic Governor Tony Evers, who is not seeking a third term; if elected, Crowley would become Wisconsin's first Black governor. Crowley won the August 11 Democratic primary in an upset with 39.8% of the vote after having at one point dropped out of the race and re-entered, receiving Evers's endorsement at the last moment; Tiffany won the Republican primary easily and was endorsed by President Trump. The final Marquette University Law School poll showed Crowley leading Tiffany 51% to 44%, with several other polls putting the gap at about five points. The same day, Wisconsin voters also chose eight U.S. House seats, attorney general, secretary of state and other statewide offices, and three state constitutional amendments. Wisconsin's statewide elections in recent years have often been decided by narrow margins; in the 2024 presidential election Trump's margin in the state was under one percentage point. Final results must be officially certified.
