Louisiana Senate Race and Record Early Voting: Letlow Faces Davis

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Louisiana polls were open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, with anyone in line by 8 p.m. able to vote. Baton Rouge voters in East Baton Rouge Parish joined the state in choosing a U.S. senator and deciding 10 state constitutional amendments. The Senate race pitted Republican U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow against Democratic farmer Jamie Davis to succeed Sen. Bill Cassidy, who lost the Republican primary; Republicans have held both of Louisiana's Senate seats for 12 years. The Secretary of State's office confirmed the U.S. Department of Justice planned to send election monitors to East Baton Rouge, Orleans and Lafayette parishes to ensure compliance with federal voting-rights laws, and noted that federal monitoring is not new and Louisiana elections remain governed by state law. Early voting set a midterm record: 530,514 early and absentee ballots were cast statewide, with Democrats at 225,951 and Republicans at 208,344, a Democratic early-vote lead of more than 17,600. In East Baton Rouge Parish, early ballots split 28,435 Democratic to 16,044 Republican, and the Secretary of State projected total turnout of about 1.65 million voters, or 48% to 52%. Voters had to bring valid photo ID and could check precincts and sample ballots at GeauxVote.com or in the app.
