Massachusetts Ballot Carries a Record-Tying Nine Questions as Gov. Healey Seeks Re-election

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Massachusetts polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, and Taunton voters in Bristol County faced one of the longest ballots in state history: beyond governor, U.S. senator and U.S. House races, they decided nine statewide ballot questions, tying the record set in 1994. Democratic Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll sought re-election against Republicans Michael Minogue and Shawn Oliver and unenrolled candidate Andrea James. In the Senate race, Democratic Sen. Ed Markey faced Republican John Deaton. The nine questions covered topics including the public records law and repealing marijuana legalization, and they pushed Taunton's ballot to two pages. Election officials warned that high turnout plus a two-page ballot would make counting and releasing unofficial results slower than usual. Election Director Mark Pacheco said the first unofficial results were expected on election night into November 4 but would not include all ballots: domestic mail ballots were due by 5 p.m. on November 6 and overseas federal write-in absentee ballots by 5 p.m. on November 13. Taunton's election will be certified on November 18, and officials reminded voters that unofficial results are preliminary until certification.
