Minnesota Sets an Early-Voting Record of 886,000 Ballots as Two Counties Bar Federal Monitors from Polling Places

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Minnesota voters went to the polls on November 3 to choose a governor, a U.S. senator, attorney general, secretary of state, state auditor and all 201 legislative seats, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced on November 2 that it had rejected a U.S. Department of Justice request to place federal monitors inside polling places; federal personnel would have to remain outside and observe Minnesota's 100-foot boundary, without interfering with voters or election workers. Secretary of State Steve Simon said at a November 2 briefing that federal monitors were expected in Hennepin and Ramsey counties, about five to six two-person teams in Hennepin and four to five in Ramsey, and Ramsey County had likewise refused entry. Simon urged voters who see suspicious activity or interference to tell election judges first, or call 877-600-VOTE. Minnesota had already set a midterm early-voting record before Election Day: as of 9 a.m. on November 2, 886,427 ballots had been accepted, including 619,847 in-person early ballots and 266,580 returned by mail.
