Four Candidates Vie for Montana's Open Senate Seat as Daines Steps Aside

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Montana voters went to the polls on November 3 to choose a U.S. senator, U.S. House members, state Supreme Court justices, Public Service Commission members, legislators and three statewide measures. Most polling places were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; smaller precincts serving fewer than 400 registered voters could open later but not after noon. The Senate seat was open because Republican Sen. Steve Daines is not seeking a third term; the main candidates on the ballot were Republican Kurt Alme, Democrat Alani Bankhead, Libertarian Kyle Austin and independent Seth Bodnar. In Roosevelt County, Poplar Middle School served Precincts 16 and 18, the Brockton School District Office served Precinct 15, and Faith Free Lutheran Church in the Brockton area served Precinct 17. The Roosevelt County Commission, at its August 18 meeting, canceled competitive elections for seven county offices because each had only one candidate. Montanans also voted on two constitutional amendments and one state-law measure that would change the state constitution and election law.
