More Than 1.22 Million New Jersey Voters Cast Ballots Early as Sen. Booker Seeks a Third Full Term

New Jersey polls were open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3 as voters decided a U.S. Senate seat and all 12 U.S. House seats. Mail ballots had to be postmarked by 8 p.m. on November 3 and received by county boards of elections by November 9, or delivered to a secure county drop box or in person. Democratic Sen. Cory Booker, seeking a third full term, faced Republican Justin Murphy, independent Veronica Fernandez and Socialist Workers candidate Joanne Kuniansky. The most watched House race was in the 7th District, where Republican Rep. Tom Kean faced Democrat Rebecca Bennett. In South Jersey's 2nd District, Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew faced Democrat Zach Mallock, the mayor of Cape May; the district covers all of Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties and parts of Gloucester and Ocean counties. In-person early voting from October 24 to November 1 produced 643,145 ballots, and 579,116 mail ballots had been returned before Election Day, for a combined 1,222,261 voters, about 18% of the 6,746,886 registered as of November 1.
