Ohio Early Voting Tops 1.7 Million, a Midterm Record, as Ramaswamy Faces Acton for Governor

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Ohio polls were open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 3, with voters in line at 7:30 p.m. still able to vote; mailed absentee ballots had to reach county boards of elections by 7:30 p.m. to count. The Secretary of State's figures showed more than 1.7 million Ohioans had already voted early, a midterm record above the 1.5 million of 2022: nearly 1.1 million voted in person by the November 1 early-voting deadline, about 632,000 mail ballots had been returned, and more than 104,000 absentee ballots were still outstanding. The top race was for governor, with Republican Vivek Ramaswamy facing Democrat Amy Acton to succeed term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine. The Senate race pitted Republican Sen. Jon Husted against Democrat and former Sen. Sherrod Brown for the remaining two years of the term Vice President JD Vance won in 2022. Voters also chose secretary of state, attorney general, auditor and treasurer, two state Supreme Court seats, and decided Issue 3, which would write the photo-ID voting requirement into the state constitution. In Hamilton County, more than a fifth of registered voters had cast ballots within the first hour: by 7:30 a.m., 19,576 in-person votes plus 118,997 early and mail ballots totaled 138,573, a 22% turnout equal to 45% of the county's entire 2022 midterm turnout.
