Election Day in Alexandria, Virginia: Voters Decide Three Constitutional Amendments

More than 62,000 registered voters in Alexandria, Virginia, went to the polls from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 3, voting at their assigned precinct polling places, with preliminary results expected later in the evening and statewide results through the night. Virginia chose a U.S. senator and all 11 U.S. House members; Alexandria sits in the 8th Congressional District. Alexandria public school students had the day off while staff held a planning day, and the Alexandria courthouse closed for the day except for election emergencies. The ballot carried three proposed constitutional amendments: reproductive freedom in circumstances including pregnancy, repeal of the same-sex marriage ban, and restoration of voting rights after release from incarceration. Gov. Abigail Spanberger campaigned for all three amendments. Weather was sunny, with Alexandria temperatures expected to reach about 73 degrees. Peak voting was expected after the morning commute and in the early evening, alongside early and mail voting options.
